The
History of Artifice
In
the beginning a notion was developed to fuse the natural elements
of metal and stone together to form a unique line of handcrafted
products.
This
idea was further investigated and developed initially on a farm
in Jarvis, Ont. With minimal tools and material the vision began
to produce some extraordinary pieces.
Furniture
was crafted from scrap metal laying about the farm and stone was
incorporated from nearby quarries. This was the time when the fundamentals
of working with steel and stone were learned.
Most
of the pieces that were crafted were for personal use and not necessarily
for sale. However very quickly people began to express interest
in the unique work being produced on the farm. While on the farm
Artifice was born and the creative process had to become more refined
and consistent.
The
next move was to a small studio in Etobicoke and amid the hustle
of this urban setting Artifice evolved again. New techniques and
material were incorporated into the design aspect reflecting the
industrial influences of the surroundings.
The
next move would be full circle back to the country to Beamsville,
Ont. This present location is nestled on the edge of the Niagara
escarpment providing the craftsman at Artifice with unlimited inspiration
and space.
